The UP Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute proudly congratulates Assistant Professor Charleston Dale Ambatali for bagging the General Chairperson Award, the highest accolade for student finalists, at the 34th International Symposium on Space Technology and Science (ISTS) in Kyushu, Japan
Ambatali is the First Filipino space technology scholar under JICA’s Knowledge Co-Creation Program (KCCP). The award grants him the opportunity to attend the 74th International Astronautical Congress, one of the biggest events in the international space community.
Ambatali’s winning research, ‘Analysis of the Microwave Wireless Power Transfer Efficiency of a Furoshiki Space Solar Power Station in Geostationary Orbit’, presents a means of wirelessly transferring energy from solar power satellites to the ground. The satellites stay beyond the clouds, which means they can provide electricity with minimal influence from the weather.
This research is part of Ambatali’s dissertation as a doctoral student in aeronautics and astronautics at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Engineering, where he is enrolled under JICA scholarship.
“JICA KCCP has given me a great opportunity to connect with experts from Japan. It has also allowed me to meet with other participants from developing countries. Together, we can do exciting projects to address similar problems that we face,” said Ambatali.
