The recent Industry Advisory Council (IAC) meeting of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (EEEI) was held at the Novotel Manila Araneta City, Quezon City on July 19, 2024. The meeting brought together representatives from prominent partner companies, including Meralco, Analog Devices Inc. (ADI), Embedded Silicon Technology Solutions Corp., Alexan Commercial, Advanced Energy, Samsung Electronics, Marquee Semiconductor Company Inc., Microchip Technology, and ROHM LSI Design Philippines, Inc.
Dr. Lew Andrew R. Tria, the EEEI Institute Director, began the meeting by introducing the Institute and highlighting its vision, which is to become a leading national institution in Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering, internationally recognized for excellence in instruction, research, and service to the country. The mission of the Institute was also presented, focusing on producing graduates that meet society’s current and future technical needs by delivering quality and inclusive education, promoting the creation and dissemination of knowledge, and serving society by providing technical expertise to government, industry, and the community.
EEEI Deputy Director for Academic Programs, Dr. Maria Theresa G. De Leon, presented an overview of the Institute’s academic programs, research laboratories, student data, and undergraduate curriculum map. In addition, Dr. De Leon discussed the institute’s plans to undergo accreditation for its Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BS EE), Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BS CoE), and Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering programs (BS ECE). The program educational objectives (PEOs) and student outcomes (SO) were also presented. It was emphasized that undergoing accreditation would enhance the global recognition of the institute’s graduates.
Dr. Aura C. Matias, the Director of the UPD Quality Assurance Office, presented the University’s policy on Quality Assurance (QA), and various internal and external QA activities. Dr. Matias highlighted the importance of industry collaboration in continuously improving educational programs. The presentation emphasized the significance of industry input in shaping the Institute’s academic programs and ensuring that graduates are prepared to meet industry requirements.
One of the key highlights of the meeting was the engaging open forum session, where industry partners actively participated in discussions aimed at contributing to the continuous quality improvement of EEEI’s undergraduate programs. Industry leaders shared their perspectives on the current technical requirements and the skills that are crucial for graduates entering the workforce.
This first advisory council meeting showcased the EEE Institute’s proactive approach to building meaningful partnerships and leveraging industry insights to enhance the quality and relevance of its educational programs. The council agreed to meet regularly, at least twice a year, with the next meeting scheduled for September 2024. This collaborative effort is a testament to the institute’s dedication to fostering strong industry-academic relationships and ensuring that its graduates are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to the industry.
