About the book
This book is for everyone who wants to design electronic products using
a microcontroller. Numerous easy-to-follow exercises take you through
the hardware and firmware design of a microcontroller-based system,
from using the ZDS IDE for compiling and downloading programs to the
microcontroller, to interfacing external devices such as LCD displays.
This book is written in tutorial style and is ideal for self-study but
can also be used as a textbook for undergraduate or technical courses
for students with minimal programming and electronics experience. The
sample programs in the book were tested on the earlier Z8F640
development board as well as the Z8F642 development boards currently
available.

About the authors
- Luis G. Sison is an associate professor at the Department of
Electrical and Electronics Engineering and currently vice-chancellor
for research and development at the University of the Philippines,
Diliman. He established the Instrumentation, Robotics, and Control
Laboratory in the same department and is the co-founder of the
Microcontroller Applications Design Contest. He holds an MS and PhD EE
degree from Purdue University and a BS EE degree from UP Diliman. His
research interests are biomedical instrumentation, wireless sensor
networks, and embedded systems.
- Osmonn T. Burgos was an assistant professor at the Department of
Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of the
Philippines, Diliman and currently on leave for graduate studies in
Singapore. He was a member of the Instrumentation, Robotics, and
Control Laboratory in the same department and is the Mobile Robot Race
co-chair of the Microcontroller Applications Design Contest. He holds
an MSEE and BSECE degree from UP Diliman. His research interests are
embedded, mechatronic and instrumentation systems.
